The event will commence with a briefing and social BBQ on the Friday evening at Swanwick Marina and an early departure Saturday morning for the weekend rally. Whether you have crossed the channel before or not, this is a fantastic opportunity to do so in the company of an RYA-qualified instructor and like-minded sailors.

A trip across the channel can be a daunting prospect, even for experienced skippers and this end of season rally with a support boat is an enjoyable way to grow your confidence and make new friends along the way.

Open to both sail and motor boats, this rally provides a fantastic opportunity to gain experience of longer passages and add a large amount of miles to your log.

Russell Lake, Principal and Director of Urban Truant, said: “We are delighted to be involved with this programme.  We hope it will help to make berth holders boating safer, more fun and encourage them to spread their wings and visit new places”.

Entries will close on Tuesday 9th August. To register your interest, call 01489 250040 or Urban Truant.  £75 per boat and £25 per person*, entry fees include a BBQ on Friday night, briefing, on water support as you cross the channel, plus entry and exit support.

*Fee does not include overnight berthing and weekend meals.

The event follows two days of workshops held by Urban Truant.  On 21st May three participants enjoyed a full day of own boat tuition during a Sails Skills day carried out by RYA instructors. The following day Urban Truant held a Navigation Workshop with ten attendees. During the day a series of challenges took place including a knowledge quiz to wake everyone up, with questions on tidal height, course to steer and estimated position, as well as a session using a range of state of the art chart plotting equipment provided by Raymarine. The day then ended with groups planning a Channel crossing of their own. This was a workshop in addition to the one held on 19th March, where there were twelve attendees.

The workshops and rally are part of the RYA Active Marina Programme which aims to encourage boat owners to get more out of life with their boats by gaining the confidence and skills to leave their berths and get out on the water more often.  It was also a great way for berth holders to get to know each other.

A programme of Active Marina events is taking place in marinas across the south, and indeed the whole UK, to get boat owners and crews fired up about their boating.   The programme encourages and supports increased berth holder activity by partnering with marinas, RYA recognised training centres, berth holder groups and yacht clubs to establish or enhance a programme of training, cruising and social opportunities.   More information about the RYA Active Marina Programme.   To sign up to become and Active Marina .
