Royal Southampton Yacht Club celebrated their Push the Boat Out Day on Sunday 10th May in glorious sunshine and light winds.

The club have their very picturesque setting at their rural New Forest Gins clubhouse on the Beaulieu River.  Ten family groups turned up to the event, all of them extremely enthusiastic to try sailing.  Many of them also expressed a very positive interest in joining the Royal Southampton Yacht Club.

Secretary Cathy Crawley said "We were able to give them all a good experience, with individual attention. Interestingly several were sailors who live in London and keep boats at Bucklers Hard, keen to get their offspring into dinghy sailing. Two asked to sign up for our cadet training, as well as to join the Club."

There were dinghies and kayaks in the water for visitors to try out, and the appropriate safety cover was, of course, provided.

Visitors who didn't know how to sail had the chance to go out with experienced members in the club's larger dinghies, so no one missed out!

Cathy said "Many of the people  on the water were definitely keen to sail more. We also had demonstrations from our radio controlled yacht section, demonstrating that sailors of all types and abilities are welcome at the RSYC."

She concluded "From a Membership point of view, we would certainly want to participate again next year."

Push the Boat Out continues until 17th May.  See our to finding a Push the Boat Out event near you.
