The Gola brand was born on 22nd May 1905, selling football boots, and army boots during WWII. Football legend Sir Alf Ramsey joined Gola’s board of directors and acted as an ambassador for the brand. In this decade Gola football boots were worn by the lines of Tommy Smith, Emlyn Hughes, Gerry Francis, Trevor Brooking, and Peter Shilton.
In 1973 David Bedford sets a new world record for the 10,000m wearing Gola spikes with a time of 27 minutes and 30.8 seconds. The launch of the Mark Cox tennis shoe range is launched, which was quickly followed by the Barry John Rugby range and the Alan Knott cricket range.
In 2000, the Gola Classics line is created, building on the brand’s British heritage but now fashion-orientated, becoming the footwear of choice of celebs such as Robbie Williams, Jude Law, Coldplay, Paul Weller, the Gallagher brothers, to name a few.
