![]() Wally 143 gently lowered into the water The latest design to be gently lowered into the water at Fano in Italy was the Wally 143, which will soon become a 43 metre very highly specified sloop. No further details were available from Wally, only to say that a previous project thwe Wally 148 closer to 48 metres had a displacement of 150 tons, a ballast 40 tons and a sail area of 836 m! ![]() Every detail is redesigned Richard Hammond from BBC's Top Gear was fortunate enough to be taken out on this vessel, which seems to have been the result of a bet to see if you can design and make a boat using only straight lines. But the final creation would not look out of place on a George Lucas Movie. However on the specification side, it displaces some 95 tons but can still notch up 60 knots from it's awesome 3 times 5,600HP engines. That's 16,800HP in total that's over 33 BMW M5's at 507HP pushing you along the water. I know for sure that if you were lucky enough to be able to drive something like this around no-one would ever think you were a wally. ![]() Stunning Wally 118 design |
