![]() An Open 5.70 at speed The 5.70 really sits in between the dinghy and keel boat weighing in at approx 500kg including the 180kg keel. Not the sort of boat for putting on the launch trolley on your own, but nonetheless giving the masses a chance to enjoy competitive sailing and staying within a budget. The 5.00 will be around 300Kgs displacement , 2.24m beam and main sail of 12m squ plus the assymetric spi at 24m squ. Groupe Finot and it's range of Phileas boats are well know in France but less so in the UK. They make a range from Optimist to a 5.6m long, 9 person plastic boat weighing in at almost 200kgs. ![]() Open 500 for 2006 However, Groupe Finot certainly want to continue the way with the style of the Open Transat. In April 2006 they are hoping to start the Open 500 ball rolling in Vevey, Switzerland, at the same time of an Open 5.70 meet as well. Vevey, on Lake Geneva, is of course where the America's Cup winning Alinghi was built. |
