The First 34.7, the racing boat with more than a passing nod to comfort is equiped with a retractable bowsprit ( sounds very dinghy-esque ) and an asymmetric spinnaker. Like with most of the First range from Bénéteau performace comes first Hence the specs coming out about this model are more concerned about sail size and rigging than the make of the crystal cut decanters. The release talks about a "One Shot" infusion process. Normally hulls are built in 2 raw components, bottom and top. The bottom is fitted out first, then the top is glued on. However we do know that the hull is designed by Farr in collaboration with the Bénéteau Design team, ensuring that the centre of gravity is optimised, helping performance aparently. A composite lead/cast iron keel is positioned forward and low. This has been designed with more than an element of racing in mind. Even a carbon mast can be added as an option. |
