Laser Bug for only £1350.

A completely rebranded Laser Sailing now becomes LaserPerformance after a merge with Vanguard and Performance Sailboats, launched at the boat show it's latest model, the Bug. Designed by Jo Richards the Bug is a small dinghy ideal for kids and sailing schools.

It's quite small for maximum 1 adult or 2 children but it has some innovative ideas. Firstly it's completely stackable like plastic chairs, hence no racking system needed at the sailing school and secondly with a small wheel at the from your can wheel it into the water without the need of a launching trolley! Very neat as with two grips at the transom you can simply pick it uplike a wheel barrow and it wheel it straight into the water.

“With the Bug I was presented a fantastic challenge - develop a modern dinghy that offers a huge range of performance. It had to span from beginner to expert. It had to have a high level of versatility. And by the way, it had to be affordable,” says Jo Richards, designer of the Bug. “I am ecstatic with where we ended up. It’s rare to walk away from a project feeling that you met all the targets. With the Bug we are at the end of a two year process. I am looking forward to seeing The Bug in the hands of the consumer!”

The Bug is designed for 1 adult or up to 2 children. With a hull weight of only 46kgs, the Bug is a unique combination of performance and style. It has outstanding upwind capabilities and ultimate off wind sailing. There are two rigs available with the Bug. The entry version features a 3.8m2 Dacron sail that can be easily furled around the mast. Combined with the Bug’s stable hull, it is an excellent trainer. The Bug Race features a pre-bent top mast and a 5.3m2 radial cut C581 Laminate Mylar sail. With its relatively large, aggressive sail plan, the Race version offers windsurfer like agility and quickness.

The hull is constructed from triple layer polyethylene. It is sure footed and durable without compromising performance. Aesthetically, it is a modern design but intentionally so. The latest thinking in hydrodynamics were brought to bear when developing the hull. In addition, the hull features aluminum extendable carry handles, which slide out of the transom drain ports. Add the optional integrated wheel, and the Bug is a breeze to maneuver around the boat park.

“Launching any new product is great. With the Bug it is especially gratifying because the development was global and it’s the first time we’re launching a product on all four continents. We have really hit the nail on the head with the Bug. We’re expecting it to be a great success,” says David Graham, President of LaserPerformance.
