A power boat that wants a sail boat's emissions PDF Print E-mail

With so much attention on green is good these days, it was simple a matter of time before a power boat manufacturer jumped aboard. Wednesday 18th April at Real Club Nautico, Puerto de Pollensa, Mallorca, Fairline appointed dealer Fairline North Mallorca, is hosting the world's first comparison demonstration of 100% renewable BioFuel-powered and Fossil diesel-powered boats on behalf of fuel technology company, Revego Ltd.

Two identical Fairline Phantom 46s, each powered by a different fuel, will be trialled alongside each other. Invited industry guests, VIPs and customers will be able to assess the potential opportunities offered by this alternative energy source and examine the technology system installations.

For those not accustomed to the subtleties of marine power, it may have escaped your noticed that for those wanting a 100% eco-friendly power source can simple switch to a zero emission sail boat as a mode of transport instead. However, Russell Currie, MD of Fairline North Mallorca is excited by the prospect of the demonstration. I hope that my Fairline customers will be able to consider a choice of fuel when they go boating.

The hard nose reality here is that consumers using large luxury motor boat costing £500K or there abouts, are using the boat as a luxury item, and I suspect that faced with a choice will select based on ease of maintenance and servicing. Pulling into a remote harbour to find that your type of fuel is not available is not going to win favours with your customers.

Global warming needs to be dealt with on all fronts, but when it inconvenience's the consumer, it's simply a non starter.
