Olympic gold medalist and new mother Shirley Robertson has announced that she will be competing in the Dubarry J24 European Championships, which take place at Parkstone Yacht Club, Poole from 22-29 September.

Over 40 boats have already entered for the event, including current title holders Ian Southworth and his crew on Hedgehog. With their focus previously on top contender Ivo Kok from Holland, the last minute entry from Shirley Roberston on Volvo, will add to the field of top quality contenders in this closely-fought fleet.

Ian Southworth says, "This is great class and a prestigious title. We are planning to retain the J24 European title for Great Britain, and are delighted to welcome Shirley and her crew to the event. Hopefully she’ll encourage fellow Olympians back to the original and still best one-design class."

The Dubarry J24 Europeans will be the first J24 event that Shirley Robertson has competed in as a helm. Her crew includes Annie Lush, Lucy Macgregor and ‘Stir Fry’, the North Sails J24 stalwart.

With over 40 entries from throughout Europe and also one entry from New Zealand, the competitors in the Dubarry J24 European Championships benefit directly from the sponsorship provided by Dubarry, with the top ten winning boats getting their crew kitted out in Dubarry’s performance Gore Tex® boots and deck shoes. Dubarry will also be presenting memorable perpetual trophies, which are life sized pewter replicas of Dubarry’s Shamrock boot and Clipper deck shoe.  Nice, pewter shoe replicas!
